What makes my ApProach unique?

In brief

Research-based

Our understanding of autism has evolved dramatically since it was first identified in the 1940s—shouldn’t our treatments evolve, too? Autism research is one of my special interests, and I stay current with the latest developments to offer the best possible care.

Collaborative

You’ve probably heard the saying, “If you’ve met one autistic person, you’ve met one autistic person.” I believe therapy should reflect that individuality by focusing first on the challenges you identify—then working together to find solutions tailored specifically to you.

addresses Systemic barriers

Here, all parts of you are welcome. Because when we leave central pieces of our identity outside the therapy space, we limit our ability to truly grow.

I believe disability isn’t something contained within a person, but something created by an unaccommodating environment. A person isn’t “disabled (unless of course, that is a preferred identifier for you),” the environment is “disabling.”

Everyone deserves the chance to show what they’re capable of and identify what supports they need.

Why Autism Therapy?

Effective therapy for people with autism isn’t about trying to make you fit in, mask who you are, or fix you in some way.

Autism, as a neurodevelopmental condition, affects how you process information, interact with others, and approach daily tasks (and so much more!). While the world often isn’t designed for neurodivergent individuals, therapy can provide relief by helping you:

Embrace your autistic identity and develop a stronger sense of self

Understand sensory sensitivities/preferences and create strategies to manage overwhelm

Build social and communication skills for more meaningful connections

Develop self-regulation tools to navigate emotional challenges

Create a personalized routine that aligns with your strengths and needs

Increase confidence in your ability to navigate the world in your own way

What Happens During ASD therapy?

Autonomy Building

Learn to work with your brain, not against it. The more you understand the complexities of your brain the better you can respond to challenges and advocate for additional supports.

Stress/Sensory Management

Autistic brains tend to be either over- or under-responsive to the sensory world, this creates lots of opportunities for stress/overwhelm/burnout. By better understanding your sensory profile, we can tailor tools to meet your needs.

School/Workplace Accommodations

Because environments are disabling, we often need to challenge and change them to better support our needs. Luckily, due to the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), you have a right to be “reasonably accommodated” at work and school. I help clients navigate this process to feel better and often to be more effective in those environments!
